OF May 10, 2005

It was
a record-breaking afternoon for Après Midi -- La Pierre du Marais
has never heard such a din coming from its upper level. We saw lots
of familiar faces...such as Dale Gaber, Mark Kritz, Gar Westfall,
Robert Larrea, Eric Tolbert, Anna Escomel and Patricia
Laplante Collins (Paris Soirées). Mimi
is back -- who we only knew as "M" until she let us know it
stood for "Mimi!"
Parler
Paris and French Property Insider staff, Yolanda Robins
and Lynda Sydney were naturally on hand. New member
of the team, Ellen Jung, came for the first time --
Ellen is an architect who will be assisting Yolanda with property searches
and renovation ideas.
A few old
and familiar faces we hadn't seen in a while were Janice Watson
who spends a few months a year in France and Thom Keel,
a professor of Georgia Institute of Technology who is here with 19 undergraduate
students for a study abroad program. Tracy James, past
Calendar Gal, is back from Washington State to make Paris permanently
her home.
Newcomers
to Après Midi brought Angela Vona, long time
Paris resident, and her friends from high school, Wendy Fish,
a retired school teacher, now fitness trainer and life coach, who she
hadn't seen in more than 40 years!
Pat
Ranieri, wants to spend most of her time here and is looking
for an apartment, Ralph Lastuka has just come to Paris
this April to work in business consulting, financing and teaching.
Valerie
Anderson (and her husband) wanted to buy property in the south
and operate a B and B, but it got expense and the dollar got weak, she
complained. Now she's in Paris looking for work with an NGO or private
company in marketing, relationship management, project management and
accounting. Bonne courage!
Thomas
and Charlene Burns from Montana are willing to give up the
"Big Sky" for a big apartment in Paris or just on the outskirts.
He's a poet, artist, photographer and is willing to take the leap. We'll
be thrilled to have them! Karen Crumbliss is here for
two months thanks to an invitation from the University of Paris to her
husband, a chemistry professor from Duke University.
Melin
Childress and Jim Walsh are here for April
and May, returning in September to find an apartment. Lea
Featherstone is on holiday from Minneapolis, came to Paris
for the first time last year, and this time brought her friend, Karen
Stauber with her. Consultant in fashion and entertainment,
Mori Benjamin, comes to Paris because he loves the
architecture. One of his goals is to become a permanent resident and
is planning to beginning French courses at La Sorbonne in the fall.
Carole Ozanian is fulfulling her life-long dream to
be in Pparis for a couple of months and loves all the get-togethers
with Americans.
Robert
and Carlyn Alpert are here checking into the possibilities
of making Paris more permanent -- once or twice a year just isn't enough.
Same story for Peter and Thèrése Zielinski who come to
France and Spain for a month every year. They're thinking of buying,
but are waiting for the exchange rate to make an improvement. But, if
they wait too long...??
