MEETING
OF DECEMBER 14TH, 2004
(Photos do not necessarily match descriptions.)
Parler
Paris Après Midi yesterday brought a big crowd of both regulars
and newcomers to a warm and cozy "premier étage" of
La Pierre du Marais. Don Smith (in the forefront),
who earned his BFA in photography at the San Francisco Art Institute
and studied under Pirkle Jones, Ansel Adams professional assistant for
13 years, brought his camera and took these very intimate shots of those
who came for coffee and conversation. Don runs a series of photography
workshops here in Paris -- if you want to learn more, visit his site
at http://www.parisphotoworkshops.com
Back
again...Larry and Claudia Frame who are living here
now and beating the cobblestones to find an apartment
to buy, finding it difficult, of course; Alanea Kowalski,
who is here to expand her business of executive coaching and human resource
consulting; Dolores Lilley who is looking forward to
Christmas in Paris; Anne Morton, another
San Franciscan who is seeking a pied-à-terre of her
own after recently selling her large 11th arrondissement she jointly
owned with a cousin;
Dale
Novick
Gaber, psychologist and fellow New Orleanian who is here for
good and will be speaking January 9th at Paris Soirées; Hans
Henrick, incomparable hair stylist who left little "Lord
B" at home where it's warm (his parrot we've never met);
Patricia
Laplante Collins of Paris Soirées along with Eve, her
black Labrador and Yolanda Robins, French Property
Insider's Property Manager, who came here first as an attendee of a
Working and Living in France Conference, moved here last year
and then landed the job working with me to find dream properties for
our clients.
For
the first time...Frenchman Francois Morisot who came
to practice his English which he first learned living in Brazil many
years ago; Sandra Hammett without her husband, Jerry
Schultz, who comes often and paints scenes of the city while
Jerry writes stories; Nic Grove, Australian living
in Paris for the last two years and wanting to meet more people;
Linda
Hervieux, a journalist from New York whose husband transferred
to Paris about six weeks ago and is feeling completely lost (until finding
us at Parler Paris!); Aldridge Hansberry, longtime
Parisienne and native New Orleanian who is a musician and composer performing
later this week with the New Music Association (http://www.aiguillage.org);
Usa Cizo who has been in Paris since 1987 and is presently
studying International Commerce and Translation Studies;
Qianyi
Berton, a resident since 1999 and also studying International
Commerce; Court, a Brit from London living here the
last two years who wants to meet people from abroad;Mary Beth
Myers who's visited Paris now for the 7th time and would like
to find a work to work here as a designer of graphics, interiors, luggage
and travel gear; Robert Larrea, a sound mixer for film
and TV now living here from New York City and recently married;
Anna
Brown came with Wythe Walker from New Mexico,
who is taking voice courses and planning to stay until mid March; Marion
Renter who came just to take a coffee break from work and visit
with nice people; Judith Plista just moved here in
August, is married to a Frenchman and lives just outside Paris; and
near the end, author Kai Maristed (http://www.kaimaristed.com/)
came to check out the goings on with hopes of returning next month.
The
highlight of the afternoon was Allison Smith's bird
calls! Oboe player by trade, she received a Belle Skinner Fellowship
from Vassar College to do research on her dissertation at the Bibliotèque
Nationale on the performance practice of bird calls in French baroque
music. (Pictured at left with Francois Morisot, this photo and the
following one of Yolanda Robins and Anne Morton by Adrian Leeds)
