MEETING OF JULY 3, 2007
The
weather all month has been depressing at best and this particular afternoon,
as schizophrenic as ever...blue skies in view while raining and hissing
at us. It didn't stop the die-hards from coming to Après Midi,
however...the last for the summer season until September 11th...a special
date to say the least. Mary Louise Sillman had a chance to show off her jewelry creations, too, passing around the baubles to everyone's enjoyment. She made friends with Parisienne Simone Deutschmann who is a long time resident, but lived also in the USA and wants to practice speaking English. Alan Smid and Robert Larrea are regular visitors whose smiling faces we always love to see. Mary Ellen Gallagher, Search Consultant for French Property Insider Consultation (Adrian Leeds Group, LLC), who affectionately calls herself a "Search Engine," stopped in to say hello and tell us about all the great apartments she had just seen in the neighborhood. Alice Needham had participated in Parler Parlor before, but came to check out Après Midi as a great place to meet new people. She discovered Loui Franke, a Periodontist with an apartment in the 5th and a home in Miami. Loui's husband, Stanley Coira, a retired physician, find themselves about half a year in Paris. Stan's French was impressive, having studied in France before getting his degree and practicing in the States. Loui stayed for Parler Parlor French-English Conversation to get hers up to a better level. A friend of Simone's, Fusia Robquin, who was born in Algeria of Moroccan and Tunisian parents, is a nutritionist and happy to meet Anglophones. Kate Caldwell Daoud, who has a shop at 27, rue de Picardie, just a few steps away, is about to open a Salon de Thé on the premises named "Les Comptoirs de Carthage," open Tuesday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. with breakfasts and lunches. Be sure to try it! For more information, email comptoirs_de_carthage@yahoo.fr.
