You are invited to come for drinks and share your questions and comments about what it takes to create a life here, own property and enjoy what France has to offer. It is also an opportunity to network with other Parler Paris readers. *Special Note: Anyone attending Parler Paris Après Midi must be willing to have their photograph taken and a brief description written about them for publishing in Parler Paris. Your presence indicates your willingness to participate.
MEETING
OF May 9, 2006
The mountain of umbrellas dried in their open states while we ignored the cold and wet Paris Spring day to welcome a well-balance mix of both regulars and newcomers to Après Midi at La Pierre du Marais. Chef and author of "On Rue Tatin" Susan Herrmann Loomis and poet and organizer from The Writing Salon James Navé discussed serious matters over a laptop with WiFi in spite of the din from the animated crowd. Executive coach Alanea Kowalski, who delivers management training programs and is seeking Expat clients, is still here and loving it. She spent a lot of time talking with French Property Insider Property Consultant Yolanda Robins about purchasing her own apartment now that she spends so much time here, but still managed to get to know Ann Ekland from Carlsbad, California. Ann and her husband, Jack Ekland, rented an apartment for one month in the 12th arrondissement and is spending their time in Paris shopping, discovering the open-air markets, practicing French cooking, testing wines and restaurants. Jack and Ann gifted me with a big T-shirt from NYC and a California AAA sticker for my non-existent car! Photographer, Billy Cone, comes to Paris to photograph EVERYTHING...or at least he is trying. He generously presented me with a copy of his magnificent tome of photos of Paris statuary, which he shows off here with regulars Al Stewart, management and career consultant of Business Mentors, Inc. who lives between Florida, Georgia and his Marais apartment in Paris, and Patricia Laplante-Collins of Paris Soirées and Paris Network. If you haven't already attended one of Patricia's soirées, do! It's a great place to meet other Francophilian Anglophones. Thomas Keel drops in once a year or so. This is his third Summer (May, June, July) teaching Georgia Tech architectural students who do their Summer semester in Paris studying building construction and visiting construction companies and construction sites. He and Yolanda had a chance to chat while Jack is hamming it up taking a picture of me taking a picture of him. Carole Finlay who is a "hybrid" -- half French and half American, is a "Naturopath" (health coach) and is networking with health-conscious people. She is President of the HNI Health Network International and working to publish a new book called "Health Wise in Paris" -- a resource for Anglophones. Although not allowed to actually recommend doctors in print, the service can make recommendations over the phone and in person, but the book is designed to help someone through all the cultural, language and issues surrounding good health maintenance in Paris. Trained in first aid, Carole was Johnny on the Spot as she took out a small medical kit to administer assistance to another Après Midi attendee who needed care. She brought with her Alexis Niki who has been in Paris four years and wears three hats: the is a teacher of the Alexander Technique, a writer and is Vice President of Health Network International. She's interested in meeting people from all walks of life. Alexis and Carole became friendly with Beatrice Truesdale, a new retiree, who is looking for a place to settle down for a while. Paris has always been her favorite city, so she's been here for three months practicing the art of living here. Gar Westfall, Hawaiian resident and regular visitor to Paris and Après Midi hung out with the women in the center of all the action. He's here for six weeks, but it flies by too fast every time he comes. Irishman Ciaran O'Carroll became friendly with French Property Insider Property Consultant Will Faas. Paris is a second home for Ciaran, so he visits regularly to dig deeper into the atmosphere and history of the inner city. Regular Lee Lady leans into Danuté Federas, who came to Après Midi with Caryn Shaye. Danuté came to Paris to party, dance and take photos! Caryn has graced our door many times before -- she's antique buying and dancing (tango) with the goal to live a life of joy and abundance in Paris. Shoshana Botnick, an attorney and past Living and Investing in France Conference attendee, staying in an apartment just a block away from La Pierre du Marais, is trying to decide if she can make the move to Paris from her Los Angeles home. We say yes! Jack and Patty Nelson from Pacific Grove, California near Monterey, are vacationing here for a month with two weeks in the south of France. Because they are retired, they could stay for longer and are thinking of being here more often. They claim to be ambassadors for France, telling everyone back home what a great place this is. How difficult is that!? Gary and Debby Cortés, from Kansas City, Missouri, have enjoyed coming every year for the past four years to vacation, enjoy the culture and meeting new people. Gary is a general contractor and Debby is a full time "grandmother." They spend lots of time in the parks, walking in Paris and interacting with people from diverse ethnic backgrounds. Not pictured is Lynda Sydney, Parler Paris Marketing Director, who just returned from three weeks in native Toronto -- so glad to have her back in Paris!
